This tool is not a prediction engine and does not know your provincial tariff. It is a worksheet for comparing bill components and spotting whether usage or non-usage charges are driving the total.

Use your actual bill numbers where possible.

Usage

Enter kWh or another bill unit if comparing one service at a time.

Rate

Use the energy or commodity rate from the bill or offer.

Fixed charges

Add customer, account, or basic monthly charges.

Delivery

Add delivery or distribution items shown on the bill.

Other fees

Add riders, adjustments, or service charges if applicable.

Tax

Estimate the tax line separately to compare pre-tax and total.

How to use the calculator

Enter your usage, rate, fixed charges, delivery or variable charges, other fees, and tax estimate. The tool calculates an estimated total and an all-in cost per unit.

The all-in cost is useful for comparing months, but it is not a regulated rate. It simply divides the total estimated bill by usage.

What the result tells you

If the all-in cost is high because usage is low, fixed charges may be driving the bill. If the all-in cost is high because usage rose, efficiency and behaviour may matter more.

This is why household energy decisions should not focus only on the energy rate.

Bill tracker checklist

  • Save each bill PDF or screenshot.
  • Record usage, total bill, and average daily use.
  • Compare the same month year over year.
  • Note major weather or occupancy changes.
  • Separate fixed charges from usage charges.
  • Use the calculator for rough all-in comparisons.
  • Do not use this as a substitute for official bill rules.

Simple home energy bill calculator

This quick worksheet does not predict your exact utility bill. It helps you compare months by separating usage, fixed charges, variable charges, taxes, and the rough all-in cost per kWh or unit.

FAQ

Can this calculator predict my exact bill?

No. It is a worksheet for rough comparison. Exact bills depend on your utility, province, tariff, taxes, riders, and usage.

What is all-in cost per unit?

It is the estimated total bill divided by usage. It helps compare months but is not the same as the official energy rate.

Why include fixed charges?

Fixed charges help explain why a bill may remain significant even when usage falls.
